Art and History Show
Local artist Sandee Washington of Durham has teamed up with Beverly Scarlett, writer, historian and storyteller, to bring us this phenomenal show: The Heroes & Sheroes of the Eno River Valley.
This powerhouse duo gives voice to African American and Native people who lived on the Eno and whose stories and histories often are preserved only in scattered court records, obscure land deeds, and other bits and pieces. Yet their lives bear witness to the reality of so many people of color in the South - reality that is often silenced, neglected and intentionally forgotten.
Sandee and Beverly have not only reconstructed their stories, but also given them faces, dignity and a place and space to be heard, seen, and acknowledged.
You do not know Durham and Orange County history unless you know THIS HISTORY.
Come, hear, see, learn, and be changed.
Many of these stories/histories are contained in the Eno River Journal Ribbons of Color.
The Eno River Association will also join us with the Eno River Journals that contain the history of people of color who lived on the Eno River and are the history of Orange County.
